Trespassing Alternatives

Trespassing is an issue on Ohio's steelhead rivers that you need to be concerned about. Did you know that Ohio’s Metro Park Systems are extremely important to Steelheaders as they provide many access points to steelhead holding water and there is not trespassing.  Without these park system access would is limited. You need to be aware of adjacent land owners to the parks who have there property posted.

Legally you need written land owner’s permission to access private property. The law goes something like this. If the land owner owns both sides of the river, he/she owns the land under the water too. If you are stepping on the river’s bed, you are trespassing.

New Steelheaders should be interested in the following Metro Parks web sites because they all have access to one or more of the five stocked steelhead river systems in Ohio.

Cleveland Metro Parks
Lorain County Metro Parks

 Ashtabula County Metro Parks

Lake County Metro Parks

Tip: Most river systems are owned by land owners and it's a good chance you'll be trespassing on private property at sometime. Most land owners don't mind as long as you pickup the trash others have left. You should get the land owners permission to access their property. Honor all 'No Trespassing' signs, be quite, leave the landscape as it was found and don't leave trash behind.
